Halloween Poem for Young Yogis
Please enjoy this Halloween poem for your young yogis, written by kids yoga and mindfulness teacher from the United Kingdom, Victoria Rietdyk. Victoria is passionate about incorporating her love of poetry into her kids yoga lesson plans. See her four Rhyming Poems for Kids Yoga here.
Here’s a spooky yoga poem to help you and your playful pumpkins celebrate and have a happy Halloween incorporating yoga poses. This is a great way to get your young yogis exploring poses in their Halloween costumes. Why not include the yoga poem while out trick or treating?
Halloween Poem for Young Yogis
In Halloween costumes, the spooky young yogis
Create twisted branches in moonlit trees.
Triangle Pose | Tree Pose |
Candles in pumpkins light up the night.
There’re ghosts and skeletons. Rrrr what a sight!
Extended Mountain Pose |
Mountain Pose (shake arms and legs) |
Devilish werewolves and scary-looking dogs,
Turning phantom princes into freaky frogs.
Dolphin Pose | Downward-Facing Dog Pose | Squat Pose |
Slinky cats, mischievous on the mat.
How do you arch your back like that?
Cat Pose | Cow Pose |
Crescent moon and a moving star,
Witches on brooms flying so far.
Crescent Moon | Mountain Pose | Chair Pose (like a witch on a broom) |
A long deep breath, then a big “BOOOO,”
Casting spells with a witches brew.
Cobbler’s Pose (with a deep breath) |
Joining in with magic mindfulness,
Stirring a cauldron, wearing a long black dress.
Cobbler’s Pose (pretend legs are a cauldron and take turns with each arm to stir the witches brew) |
A black pointed hat with a cape to the ground,
There are spiders and bugs creeping around.
Extended Mountain (point fingers) |
Standing Forward Bend | Happy Baby |
Mummies and zombies causing a shiver,
Ghouls and vampires making us quiver
Mountain Pose (shake arms and legs) |
Ghostly pirates walking the plank
On a haunted ship. Many years ago it sank.
Plank Pose | Boat Pose | Resting Pose |
Holding his wand, here comes the wizard.
Look out! Hide! Before he turns you into a lizard.
Extended Mountain (point fingers) |
Lunge (step one foot forward, then back, and then repeat on other side) |
Bats swoop by in the nighttime sky,
Owls keep watch from the trees so high.
Warrior 3 Pose | Gyan Mudra (sit on heels, use both hands in an A-Okay sign over eyes to look like owl eyes) |
Candlelit houses throughout the land.
It’s all just good fun. Take hold of my hand.
Extended Mountain Pose (fingers flutter like a candle flame, then children can create a house rooftop by touching fingers) |
Take a deep breath. Enjoy what you’ve seen.
It’s time to relax! What a wonderful Halloween!
Resting Pose |
