We're at a Fork In the Road...

In September 2024, we shared an email that hit home with our community.

I talked about how we’re in the middle of a mental health crisis—for both children and adults—and shared some comments from our community about feeling stressed, burned out, and struggling.

In response, we were flooded with emails from people sharing their own stories of overwhelm, exhaustion, and stress—both in and out of the classroom. It’s clear this is something so many of us are facing right now.

My teacher friend said that she’d only been at work for a day and a half, and she was so frustrated that she wanted to quit after 20+ years of service.

Another school having their funding cut for after-school clubs, leaving a gap in care for working families.

Some parents have stopped supporting their dysregulated and disruptive children because it’s all too much and expect the teachers to handle it.

A school is short of 10 teacher assistants for their high-needs neurodivergent children, which is creating schoolwide chaos.

A middle school has a new principal who is introducing a new "only 8 bathroom passes per year" rule, and the students are planning a protest.

Yet another horrific fatal event (that makes me sick) at a school when I turned on the national news.

At the end of the email, I implored:

“We are at a fork in the road.

I can’t help but think that there must be something we can do, something that we can do each and every day to move this massive boulder up the hill, so to speak.

As a collective community of over 70,000 people, we must have some reasonable solutions so we can help each other.

There must be hope.”

This Hope is What Inspired Us to Action!

At Kids Yoga Stories, we believe every child deserves to learn in a calm, joyful, and focused classroom.

Through the power of yoga, mindfulness, and breathing, we aim to help anyone working with children—whether you're a teacher, school counselor, kids yoga instructor, or other support professional— create learning environments where children and educators thrive emotionally, mentally, and physically.

Yoga and mindfulness are proven tools that can:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety for kids and teachers alike.
  • Improve focus, emotional regulation, and resilience.
  • Bring more joy and connection into your daily routine.

Our mission is simple but powerful:

Transform 100K Classrooms by 2030

...by equipping educators, counselors, yoga teachers, and schools with the tools they need to easily and effectively teach yoga, breathing, and mindfulness to kids.

We believe that these tools can have a profound impact on students, creating an environment where focus, emotional regulation, and joy is possible.

And where teachers can thrive as well!

Further, we will share stories of success and best-practices so we can inspire and support one another on this mission.

Join Our Mission to Transform 100K Classrooms by 2030!

Imagine what’s possible when millions of children experience calm, focus, and joy in their learning environments. Together, we can help:

Equip Teachers with simple, effective tools to bring calm and focus to their classrooms.

Empower Students to thrive through movement, breath, and mindfulness.

Inspire Schools to foster a culture of focus, connection, and lasting calm.

Why This Mission Matters!

We hear it all the time from our KYS community and feel it in our very own communities!

Children today face exorbitant levels of stress, distractions, and challenges that can hinder their learning and well-being.

Teachers, counselors, and school staff work tirelessly to help kids, but they often don’t have the resources, time, or training to effectively support the emotional and mental needs of their students. They are burned out, overwhelmed, and stressed as well!

We believe that yoga and mindfulness provide the perfect solution... if we can get these tools into more classrooms!

These practices are not only fun and engaging—they’re scientifically proven to:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Improve focus and concentration
  • Help kids regulate their emotions
  • Increase resilience and self-confidence
  • Encourage kindness, empathy, and teamwork
  • Prevent burnout and overwhelm

When yoga and mindfulness are integrated into classrooms, kids can handle challenges better, feel more confident, and develop emotional intelligence—all while learning in an environment that feels safe, supportive, and positive.

Kids Finding Peace!

"I want to tell you how much Kids Yoga Stories has helped me ever since I took the role of a lead instructor in three different schools here in Indianapolis. Through Indy Yoga Movement, I serve in our community now in four schools. We work with all schools and are pioneering a research study with a High School I work with, to observe the kids who come to my yoga classes, to see a reflection in their studies with the help of yoga & mindfulness. You have inspired me to work with kids. I feel so blessed to help kids find peace in their breath, let goofy things that may be holding them back and discover the joy that it is within them. Two of the schools I serve are behavioral schools, so it can be sooo hard, but also sooo rewarding. You are helping us create a better world with yoga!"
-Paula

In Place of Discipline!

"Love using breathing exercises! I use mindful breathing in place of discipline and to get the attention of my noisy classroom. Each week we use themed yoga poses and mindful breathing. We also have a weekly positive affirmation. The children love it!"

- Tammy

Helping to Refocus Their Minds!

"We use the yoga posters and cards everyday at my tutoring center. We use them for brain breaks during a session and my students absolutely love doing the poses. Yoga and mindfulness is so helpful to get out some wiggles and to refocus our minds"
-Nancy
