5 Construction Site Yoga Postures
Get out your construction site gear as you flow through these five postures, which are specifically ordered to invite flow from one pose to the next. Practice barefoot or on a non-slip surface and be mindful of your surroundings. Most of all, have fun with movement!
1. Pretend to be a crane.
How to practice Triangle Pose: From a standing position, step one foot back, angling your foot slightly outward. Take your arms up parallel to the ground then bend at your waist, tilting your upper body forward. Reach your front hand down to gently rest on your shin and reach your other arm straight up. Pretend that your long arm is the boom of a crane.
2. Pretend to be an excavator.
How to practice Extended Side Angle Pose: From Triangle Pose, bend your front leg and rest your front elbow on your thigh (or take your hand to the floor). Like an excavator arm, reach your other arm straight up to the sky and look up toward your hand. Pretend to be an excavator. Repeat on the other side.
3. Pretend to be a steam roller.
How to practice Child’s Pose: Come down to sitting on your heels, then slowly bring your forehead down to rest on the floor in front of your knees. Rest your arms down alongside your body and take a few deep breaths. Pretend to be the drum of a steam roller.
4. Pretend to be a front loader.
How to practice Boat Pose: Come to a seated position with your legs straight out in front of you. Balance on your buttocks with your arms and legs straight out in front of you in a V shape. Keep a straight spine and open chest. Pretend to be the scoop of a front loader.
5. Pretend to be a forklift truck.
How to practice Legs Up the Wall Pose: Lie flat on your back then slowly raise your legs straight up toward the sky, making an L shape with your body. Keeping your legs together, flex your feet. Spread your arms out to either side and keep your neck in a neutral position. You could also rest your legs up a wall instead. Pretend that your legs are the mast of a forklift.
