Bedtime Meditations for Kids: 3 Calming Videos to Help Children Sleep Better

When my daughter was younger, we would lie in her bed listening to bedtime meditations as a way to calm her mind and body after a busy, stimulating day.

When she was tired, she often got wound up, making it even harder to fall asleep, which she so desperately needed. The meditations at bedtime made a huge difference in helping her transition into a more relaxed state.

And they helped me, too. I found myself easing my own worries, remembering to take long, slow breaths, and enjoying those sweet moments of regulating together.

Even now as a teen, my daughter listens to her own sleep music. It’s a habit that started early and has continued to be part of her bedtime ritual—and her sleep toolkit.

Why Add Meditation to Your Bedtime Ritual?

Research shows that meditation can help children reduce stress, regulate emotions, and improve sleep quality.

In fact, a 2024 study of young children found that those with consistent bedtime routines — which could include meditation or mindfulness — had better emotional regulation and behavior than those with irregular bedtimes. This suggests that how we end the day matters just as much as how much sleep our children get.

From my own experience, adding meditation to bedtime is a simple way to:

  • Ease racing thoughts after a busy day.
  • Calm the nervous system for deeper rest.
  • Build emotional resilience over time.
  • Create special connection moments for grownups and children.

Make Bedtime Mindful

You don’t need a lot of time or special equipment to bring mindfulness into bedtime. Whether it’s a 5-minute guided meditation, a few calming breaths, or listening to sleep music, the most important part is creating a consistent ritual.

Over time, these moments become anchors for your child—reminders that their body knows how to relax, rest, and recharge.

Try one of these meditations this week and see how your evenings shift. Who knows? It might just become a family ritual that carries on for years, like it did for us.
