Gingerbread Cookie Yoga Poses and Books for Kids: A Sweet Holiday Movement Activity

Celebrate the holidays with this playful yoga gingerbread flow for kids. Try 5 gingerbread-inspired poses with cozy picture books for a festive winter lesson.

The holiday season is full of excitement, activity, and sugar-fueled energy, which makes it the perfect time to bring yoga and mindfulness into your classroom or home.

Just the other day, my daughter asked if we could pull out our cookie cutters to make gingerbread cookies, and it sparked an idea: What if we created gingerbread cookie–inspired yoga poses to match the baking process? It felt like such a fun, whimsical way to help children move their bodies, release energy, and stay grounded during this wonderfully busy time of year.

A gingerbread-themed yoga flow encourages children to tap into their imagination, connect to their bodies, and find moments of calm, all through playful holiday movement. These yoga postures pair beautifully with baking activities, story time, or your winter-themed curriculum. Try also this gingerbread man easy reader book for more learning.

Let’s get baking… with movement!

5 Gingerbread Cookie Yoga Poses for Kids

Follow the five-pose flow below and pretend to bake gingerbread cookies for your holiday celebrations. Don’t worry if you haven’t tried yoga before—just jump in and give it a try. Clear the space, practice barefoot, and have fun. The focus is on introducing yoga to children, not on perfectly aligned poses. Be safe, but also encourage them to explore their creativity.

1. Star Pose – “Shine Bright”

From a standing position, step your feet out wide. Lift both arms out to your sides and above your head, with your fingers spread out. Feel your feet rooted into the ground and your body stretching tall like a shining gingerbread star.

Use this yoga posture to ground and center at the start of class.

This yoga posture builds strength, balance, and focus.

4. Half Moon Pose – “Fresh Out of the Oven”

From a standing position, step your left foot back while opening your hip to the side. Tilt forward and place your right hand on the ground (or a block) while lifting your left foot and reaching your left arm up. Pretend you’re a baker leaning forward to take the gingerbread cookies out of the oven. Switch sides and repeat.

This yoga pose strengthens balance and core stability.

Stand on one leg. Bend the knee of the lifted leg and place the sole of your foot on your opposite calf or thigh (not on the knee). Switch sides and repeat. Pretend you’re a gingerbread tree standing tall in a snowy forest.

This yoga pose helps children practice focus, balance, and calm.
