London Yoga for Kids: 5 Fun Poses and 5 Books to Explore This Iconic City
Explore London yoga for kids with five fun yoga poses and five picture books inspired by famous landmarks during this playful way to bring movement, imagination, and travel into your kids yoga lessons.
Some of my fondest memories from childhood come from spending each summer in England visiting my grandparents. We would take the train into London and spend the whole day exploring the city, listening to stories from my parents’ youth, and walking through their old neighborhoods.
We always made time for simple family traditions like sharing fish and chips wrapped in paper, riding the double-decker bus just for fun, and ending the day with afternoon tea and warm scones topped with jam and clotted cream. Those sensory moments–the sounds, the tastes, the history–have stayed with me ever since.
London is unforgettable. It is iconic, vibrant, and filled with landmarks that spark curiosity in children. Pretend to “travel” to London and discover its famous sights through movement, storytelling, and imagination is such a fun theme!

5 LONDON POSES FOR KIDS
Create a space for your pretend adventure to London, England. Practice barefoot on a non-slip surface, if possible, and remember—just have fun with movement. These kids yoga poses are designed to flow naturally from one to the next:
1-Pretend to be Big Ben.
How to practice Extended Hand-to-Big-Toe Pose: From a standing position, bend your right knee toward your chest. Grab your right big toe with your right hand and place your left hand on your left hip. Extend your right leg out to the side, straightening the leg as much as possible. Hold this pose for a few breaths then bring your leg down slowly. Pretend your legs are the clock arms of Big Ben. Switch sides and repeat the steps.
2-Pretend to be the Horse Guards Parade
How to practice Horse Stance: Stand with your legs apart, toes angled slightly outward. Bend your knees and stand firm. Pretend to be a horse at the Horse Guards Parade.
3-Pretend to be Buckingham Palace
How to practice Plank Pose: Come down to balance on your palms and on your bent toes in a plank position. Keep your arms straight and your back long and flat. Hold steady for a few breaths, ensuring a straight line from your head to your toes. Pretend to be Buckingham Palace.
4-Pretend to be the The Tube
How to practice Staff Pose: Come to sit with a tall spine with your legs straight out in front of you. Pretend to be the underground Tube in London.
5-Pretend to be Kensington Gardens
How to practice Flower Pose: Come to sit on your buttocks with a tall spine, lift your bent legs, balance on your sitting bones, and weave your arms under your legs with your palms facing up. Pretend to be a rose at Kensington Gardens.

5 LONDON BOOKS FOR KIDS
Below are my favorite books about London that I discovered online and in our local library:

This is London
by Miroslav Sasek
This classic book was first published in 1959, but the illustrations and description of London are timeless. This new edition includes an update of what London is like today at the back of the book. The simple, elegant text and sophisticated images make this a great choice in adding it to your kids yoga session. Sasek has also written similar books on Paris, New York, and San Francisco.

All Aboard the London Bus
by Patricia Toht and Sam Usher
This is another great book to use during a yoga class session because of the engaging rhyming poetry and the timeless illustrations. You can act out what you see and do on through yoga poses as you go through this sight-seeing journey. The back of the book has further information about all the famous places in London.

A Walk in London
by Salvatore Rubbino
This is a lovely story about a girl and her mom who take a walk through London. There’s a lot to look at in the illustrations, and besides the storyline, there is tiny text with further information about each of the famous features of London. This would be a great story to read together before a kids yoga class.

My First Book of London
by Ingela P. Arrchenius
This new beautifully designed book features all the famous landmarks of London and has images with simply the descriptive words. This book would work great with a kids yoga class even though it’s not a story, but a book full of images that could be mimicked through yoga poses. This author also has similar books for New York and Paris.

Katie in London
by James Mayhew
This is a sweet storybook where Katie and her brother are shown the sights of London by an imaginary lion from Trafalgar Square. This would be another lovely story to read together before or after a kids yoga class.
