Bali Yoga Poses for Kids: Explore the Island of the Gods through Movement
Take a journey to Indonesia through Bali Yoga!
One of my favorite places in the world is Bali, Indonesia—a peaceful island oasis often called the Island of the Gods. Nestled in Southeast Asia, Bali is known for its lush jungles, ancient temples, vibrant traditions, and deep spiritual roots.
I still remember the serenity of the rice fields, watching surfers ride the waves, and the beauty of the temple rituals at sunset. There’s something magical about Bali that stays with you.
To share this love of Bali with children, I wrote Hello, Bali — a yoga book that introduces young readers to the island through movement and imagination. It’s a gentle and playful way to explore the local culture, animals, and landscapes of Bali.
This Bali-inspired yoga sequence builds on that journey. Through these five simple poses, children can imagine surfing the coastline, spotting cheeky monkeys in the treetops, and joining villagers in quiet temple prayers—all while moving their bodies and calming their minds.

5 Bali Yoga Poses for Kids
1. Pretend to be surfers.
How to practice Warrior 2 Pose:
(Virabhadrasana II)
Imagine you’re riding the waves along Bali’s coast!
Step your feet wide apart, bend your front knee, and stretch your arms out to the sides, gazing over your front hand. Feel strong and steady like a surfer balancing on a surfboard.
2. Pretend to be Balinese dancers.
How to practice Dancer’s Pose:
(Natarajasana)
Picture the graceful movements of Balinese dancers at a temple celebration.
Stand tall, reach one arm forward, and stretch the opposite leg back, holding your foot behind you. Balance gently as if you’re flowing with the music.
3. Pretend to be monkeys.
How to practice Squat Pose:
(Malasana)
Imagine cheeky monkeys swinging through the jungle trees!
Come down into a deep squat with your feet flat, knees wide, and hands pressed together in front of your heart. Wiggle your fingers like monkey paws and play around with little hops!
4. Pretend to be Volcano Agung.
How to practice Downward-Facing Dog Pose:
(Adho Mukha Svanasana)
Mount Agung is Bali’s majestic volcano—tall and powerful.
Come to your hands and feet, lift your hips up high, and form a triangle shape with your body. Pretend you’re a volcano, grounded and strong.
5. Pretend to be villagers praying at the temple.
How to practice Hero Pose:
(Virasana)
Balinese villagers often gather at temples to pray and make flower offerings.
Kneel down with your legs folded under you and sit back on your heels. Rest your hands on your thighs and close your eyes for a moment of stillness and gratitude.
