5 Halloween-Inspired Adult-Child Partner Poses
1. Pretend to be Witches.
How to practice the Seesaw: Sit in an L position facing each other. You could either press your flexed feet together, or one person could bring their feet inside their partner’s legs. Reach forward and grab each other’s hands. To begin the seesaw, one partner leans back, gently guiding their partner forward. Each partner takes turns leaning back and then bending forward to create the seesaw. Try this back-and-forth movement a few times. Pretend you are witches brewing a magical potion in a big cauldron between you.
2. Pretend to be Vampires.
How to practice Seated Twist: Come to sitting comfortably cross-legged, facing each other, an arm’s length apart. Place your palms on your knees and ensure that your spine is tall and straight. Twist your torso to the right. Take your left hand to reach for your partner’s right hand and wrap your right hand back behind you to reach for your partner’s left hand. Take a few moments in this pose, then switch sides and repeat. Pretend you are sneaky vampires looking around for your next spooky adventure.
3. Pretend to be Spiders.
How to practice Flower Pose: Sit with a tall spine and bent legs in front of you. Shift so you are facing each other about two leg lengths away. Lift your bent legs and balance on your sitting bones. Grab each other’s hands (between your legs) while touching your feet together and raising them as high as is comfortable. Open your chest and keep your spine straight. Use your connected hands and feet to steady your balance, then breathe deeply. Come out of the pose at the same time. Pretend you are creepy spiders spinning a web together.
4. Pretend to be Black Cats.
How to practice Extended Cat Pose: Come to all fours, facing each other but looking down. Inch forward until your heads are almost touching. Extend your right leg out behind you, flex your foot, and look forward. Place your left hand on your partner’s shoulder to counterbalance. Hold the pose for a few breaths and then signal to each other to come out of the pose together. Repeat on the other side. Pretend you are black cats stretching under the Halloween moon.
5. Pretend to be Pumpkins.
How to practice Lizard on the Rock: For the adult: Come to an all-fours position. Shift back to sit on your heels, rest your forehead between your knees, and place your arms down alongside your body in Child’s Pose. Pretend to be a big rock.
For the child: Slowly sit on the adult’s lower back, recline gently so your back lies along your partner’s spine, and rest your head on their upper back. Open up and relax completely. To come out, the adult gently lifts while helping the child to stand. Pretend you are round pumpkins resting in a cozy Halloween pumpkin patch.
These five festive adult-child partner yoga poses are a simple way to bring the magic of movement into your Halloween celebrations. Practicing together as a Halloween family not only sparks laughter and play but also helps deepen bonds through breath, balance, and trust. Whether you practice these postures at home, in the classroom, or as part of a special Halloween Family Yoga class, they are sure to become a seasonal favorite.
