Sports Yoga for Kids: Act out Winter Activities Starting with an “S”
We are excited to be a part of the 31 Days of ABCs series with other kid bloggers to create a comprehensive resource for teaching the alphabet.
Our focus is on the letter “S” and of course, we will be doing “sports” yoga as our learning experience.
Let’s act out the following winter sports inspired by yoga poses for kids. Feel free to encourage your children’s creativity.
What other yoga poses could you invent for each “S” sport?
“S” is for sports yoga poses for kids
S is for Snowboarder
To do Warrior 2 Pose: From standing position, step one foot back, placing the foot so that it is facing slightly outward. Take your arms up parallel to the ground, bend your front knee, and look forward. Pretend to snowboard down a mountain.
S is for Skater
To do Warrior 3 Pose: Stand on one leg. Extend the other leg behind you, flexing your foot. Bend your torso forward and take your arms out behind you. Pretend you are skating across an ice rink.
S is for Skier
To do Chair Pose: Stand tall in Mountain Pose with your feet hip-width apart, bend your knees, and keep a straight spine. Hold your hands out in front of you, pretending to grasp ski poles as you fly down a ski run.
S is for Sledder
To do Staff Pose: Sit with a tall spine with your legs straight out in front of you. Pretend to sled down a snowy hill.
S is for Snow Angels
To do Resting Pose: You could finish your Sports Yoga fun by lying on your back with your arms and legs stretched out. Pretend to make snow angels in the snow and then stop to take a few deep breaths to relax your body. Close your eyes if that’s comfortable.
