Today is the first Anniversary (see below for more information) for the Multicultural Kid Blogs, a group of bloggers from around the world passionate about raising global citizens. A great way to celebrate a birthday party with children, you ask?! Why, kids yoga, of course! And today’s theme is Rainforest to align with our Latin American monthly theme.
Looking for a unique, fun, active, and creative birthday party idea for your children?! Yoga for children is a great way to get children active and having fun. Join us for a Rainforest-themed Kids Yoga Birthday Party and a virtual happy birthday to Multicultural Kid Blogs!
Prep for your Rainforest Birthday Party
Turn the space into a mini-rainforest with stuffed animals, large paper trees, musical instruments, books, and music. Prepare your food to be rainforest-inspired and choose eco-friendly table settings. Get your children involved in creative ways to bring the rainforest alive for their birthday.
Do the Rainforest Kids Yoga Sequence
Now that everyone feels like they are in the rainforest, it’s time to practice your rainforest-themed yoga sequence together. Wear comfortable clothing and practice barefoot. Use these rainforest animals as an inspiration guide, but feel free to be creative and act out other animals in the region. Take pictures of the poses and create a “Rainforest Kids Yoga Book” for all your guests to have as a memento. Eight yoga poses inspired by rainforest animals:
Warrior 3 Pose – Toucan
(Stand on one leg. Extend the other leg behind you. Bend your torso forward and take your arms out to the side. Flap your arms like the wings of the toucan.)
Egret – Dancer’s Pose
(Stand tall in Mountain Pose, stand on one leg, reach the opposite leg out behind you, place the outside of your foot into your hand, bend your torso forward with your arm out in front for balance, and arch your leg up behind you.)
Sloth – Eagle Pose
(Stand tall in Mountain Pose, wrap one leg around the other, bring your bent arms out in front of you, wrap your arms together the opposite way, and slightly bend your knees. Wrap around a tree like a sloth.)
Spider Monkey – Standing Forward Bend
(From Mountain Pose, bend your upper body, bend your knees, reach for your toes, and move your arms like a monkey.)
Arrow-Poison Frogs – Squat Pose
(Come down to a squat, and hop like a frog.)
Coral Snake – Cobra Pose
(Lie on your tummy, lift head and shoulders off ground, place palms flat next to your shoulders, and hiss like a snake.)
Jaguar – Cat Pose
(On all fours, tuck your chin into your chest, and round your back.)
Armadillo – Extended Child’s Pose
(Come to sitting back on your heels, slowly bring your forehead down to rest in front of your knees, place the palm of your hands flat out in front of you, and take a few deep breaths.)
