Sophia’s Jungle Adventure was brilliant. With an emphasis on imagination and having fun this story ignited my sons enthusiasm for yoga poses, and I love this because I can see his physical abilities being challenged and his mental wellbeing being nurtured. An added benefit of the simple story layout was that it drew our family together (husband included) to experience some yoga and quality bonding time together.

I love this book- it offers some Spanish words in pictures, combines a great lesson on environmentalism with Yoga for kids. I will use it in my Pre-K classroom frequently

A cute, imaginative book! I loved all of the messages- from the yoga itself to the environmental concerns. I look forward to introducing to our SLC class.

Thank you for your genius and passion. We used your Sophia’s jungle book, cards, and color book today in my daughters classroom (private school in Pre-K).

I purchased 16 colorful yoga mats and with your materials, we had a very fun, interactive, safe, and memorable practice.

We are planning monthly classes and are so appreciative of your free resources!

We have an occasional childcare centre at work. In term 3, I locked in 3 sessions a week to deliver yoga to toddlers and preschool age children. I do not come from a childcare background so setting about the sessions was initially a little daunting but given my passion for yoga and its benefits being able to share this with the children is wonderful.

It felt like Sophia’s Jungle Adventure book landed just when I needed additional inspiration, it is such an engaging resource. The children love it, I play a jungle sounds CD in the background which adds to the experience. As I am new to teaching children yoga/movement, I am still finding my style, and it is clear each session can be quite different, but motivating the children hasn’t been as difficult as I thought.

We love Sophia, the children can copy her acting out the postures it is great fun, it is adorable to hear the children ask “will we see Sophia and Jungle Jim today”? It is fun teaching the animal names and watching the impressions they create. The educational and health benefits your book creates support my personal beliefs too, I am a passionate advocate for positive impacts on the environment and of course promoting the multiple benefits for young bodies and minds.

I highly recommend your resources, they are beautifully illustrated, engaging and educational, may they continue to influence, motivate and nourish young and old.

Thank you for your incredible work, Giselle, making your material available to people like myself is truly magnificent!

Sophia’s Jungle Adventure is a simple story that links together a series of yoga poses with a child’s imagination. Children act out the story using the poses as they pretend to be various animals seen in the rain forest. Seamlessly integrated into the story are reminders that we need to be mindful of our environment and the living things with which we share it.

I use this story in my speech language therapy program to encourage shared imagination and to build vocabulary and concepts. I give this story a 5 star rating for the simple, yet colorful illustrations and the opportunity to encourage imagination.

Love this book. It’s perfect for 3-5 year olds who love to move while reading a story. It helps the kids to be playful and learn about the jungle. I use it frequently in kids yoga classes. It’s easy to follow. The poses are all appropriate for kids and give helpful tips in the back of the book for those who might not be familiar with kids yoga. It would be a great resource for a preschool classroom or the parent at home who just wants to start introducing their kids to yoga.

I am a children’s yoga teacher and I love the story and the section at the end of the book when Giselle offers suggestions about how to incorporate this into a yoga class. The story and the poses are fun and accessible. The children are learning about the Jungle while getting the amazing benefits of yoga. It’s a win win!

Sophia’s Jungle Adventure will capture the imagination and interest of both children and adults as Sophia and her family explore Costa Rica. The story is filled with a fun mix of poses of both animals and nature elements in a nicely flowing sequence that would be perfect to share in a yoga class or even to read with your child at home. The illustrations give a good representation of jungle life. Even older children will understand the gentle message that our actions can impact the environment and all things living in it.

    I would rate it 4-1/2 stars. : )

As soon as we got Sophia’s Jungle Adventure, my three children (ages 5,3, and 1) wanted to read it. My five year old was the first to notice the yoga poses in it and he hopped right up to do the first one he saw (without any prompting at all!). His three year old sister joined in and they laughed while they were trying to balance. They loved the story and illustrations but they especially liked looking for the next pose to try and they jumped right up and tried them all! After a few poses, their one year old sister was joining in too trying to do the poses. We had so much fun with this book and it is a great introduction to a few fun poses for kids!

I really love this book. I am a yoga teacher and I use books all the time in my classes. Sophia’s Jungle Adventure is great because it has a great story, so colorful that it immediately attracts the attention of a child. It has a great eco-friendly theme! Sophia & her friends are in an Environment Club at school.

In the book, there are pictures of yoga poses that correspond to the story. I used to interrupt in between the story to show the kids what yoga pose to do along with the book-sometimes it is difficult to do a yoga pose holding a book at the same time! With this book, my students see the picture in the top corner of the page and do the yoga pose that they see.

There are 18 poses in the book. The poses are easy to grasp through the illustrations but challenging enough to keep the kids interested and engaged. The subtle but important messages about protecting the environment is also powerful. The yoga poses are plenty enough to fill most kids yoga classes for the targeted age range (4-8 year olds). For a longer class, you could add poses for other animals you might see in a jungle and talk about conservation/eco-friendly choices to extend the theme. Suggestions are provided in the book. I also like that all the yoga poses are summarised in the back. I will definitely be buying more of these books for other kids as they were a hit!

I would recommend this book and others by Giselle to other parents/teachers.

This is a very cute book. My daughters, ages 7 and 4, really enjoyed reading it along with me. The pictures are cute. I like that it teaches about nature and about respecting the earth. The story was a little choppy, but my kids didn’t care! :) These books are such a great concept. Reading and movement all in one!

  15. 4 out of 5

This book is a nice yoga kids resource. This is a great book for younger kids! Children can enjoy the book as just a story or can use the book to do a simple yoga routine. The story weaves in important environmental issues along with giving information about a jungle ( animals, how the land looks etc.)The layout of the book makes it very easy to use if one has no yoga experience.

The story and sequence of the poses also work for older students. I think older students would be more engaged by orally telling the story ( not using the book)and asking the students to participate in the story telling while doing the poses while change some of the poses to make them more difficult and adding other ones.

  16. 5 out of 5

I love this book and so do my students! I work with many small children and those with special needs. The addition of the poses in circles on each page give the children a wonderful visual reference! They cue them to work into a pose, rather than having to stop the story and direct. This helps the flow of the story and activity which maintains attention and participation. Well done!

I like the themes in this book: travel, environmental stewardship, noticing the animals around you. The poses are simple and fun, and my kiddos will love the coloring page. Cute story that I will definitely use!

I have very recently embarked on the journey of kids yoga and your webpage is one that frequently comes up when I search for specific poses. What I really value, is the gentleness in your approach…it is beautiful. To be honest, I have not done the jungle book with my classes and will do so after the August break though. I am sure they will love it. I really enjoyed reading the book, doing the poses and absorb myself in nature and will convey this message to the kids as well. The illustrations are really cool.

I read the story to my 3yr old son yesterday evening and he enjoyed it. The story is just the right length to keep him engaged. I would truly give the book a five star based on the effectiveness of the story, the flow, illustrations, the length and that one can easily associate with the story.

I enjoyed this book – though getting a preview – nice story, and great ideas for kids to move into the poses as we read. Great illustrations too. Thank you for making kids yoga so practically accessible in this form!

A blend of love of reading and love of yoga can be obtained by using books. This one is a winner. No yoga experience necessary. The illustrations and story are very engaging and informative. Children will enjoy this interactive way to read and become part of the story. Tips for teachers and parents at end.

My small yoga class of beautiful kiddies loved the story and keep asking for more. They love reading in turn and creating their own story out of the story.

  24. 5 out of 5

I have used the book indeed.
And I was very happy with the simple system with picturess and explaining text.
The kids know what’s coming and the impatient kids can already get into ‘position’ when I show them the picture.
    Still I need to re-adjust them ;-).
But the book is a great help to get to know the yoga poses in one theme …

  25. 5 out of 5

This is a great book to introduce kids to yoga through telling a story. The yoga moves correspond to key vocabulary from the story and the pictures clearly demonstrate the poses. I’ll definitely use this resource (as well as many of the other stories) with children I work with.

As a Physical Education teacher who teaches a daily yoga break to kindergarten, first and second grade students, every one of Giselle’s books are fabulous! I especially love Sophia’s Jungle Adventure because the story captivates my students and they can’t wait to demonstrate the poses that are on each page. Thank you, Giselle, for helping me get my young yogis excited about something that will benefit them for a lifetime.

I plan to use this book for teaching yoga to elementary school children. The adorable, colorful illustrations seem to really catch attention. Getting children to use their imaginations is a wonderful way to learn and since children always love animals this book is sure to be very engaging. I also love the underlying theme of environmental awareness which makes this book timely and relevant.

I was so satisfied that I had no doubt in purchasing all the other books created by Giselle Shardlow. It’s a wonderful book.

I work in early childhood and have used this book with children of varying ages. The illustration is good as is the story. The children have all loved it and the stickers showing them the moves are great. They get to the stage where when you turn the page they are looking for the sticker so that they can get into the next posture. I particularly enjoy the message that is sent with the story as I do feel that if we educate our youth about taking care of the world it will make a huge difference. Thank you Giselle and team.

My daughter had shown in interest when I was doing regular yoga and pilates at home. I searched the internet to find yoga books for her and I came across these. I am so glad I did. My now 21/2 year old LOVES them! She has had them for about 6 months now and still pulls it out to read and do the yoga poses. She always asks me to read and do the poses with her. I think this book is great for ages 2 and up. The pictures are colorful and the compilation of poses in the back of the book is nice as well. My daughter also has the Goodnight Animals one and loves to do that before bed. I can’t wait to get the others for her as well. I highly recommend these books!

I really liked this book, especially the drawings. The poses are ordered in a very good way as they go from standing, laying to sitting poses. I don’t have much experience of working with children at that mental age (I’m working with kids and youth with disabilities), but I think the story is too long and has too many elements. I have noticed at the end of the book that you recommend it can be shortened and that is a very good advice for anyone working with kids even without disabilities, especially when introducing the book to them. I think the book is very helpful for yoga teachers working with kids, so thank your for another great story :-)

This yoga storybook was a perfect mix for the classes that I teach! The pictures are so cute and simple. They tell the story alone. The story takes you on a journey through the jungle, striking yoga poses along the way. From kindergarten through 2nd grade my students loved the book. The teachers’ classes that I have been in to share the book have asked where I found this gem! The back has a listing of all the poses for your kids to review and try. I used this story as a testing break. It was a great relief to be in warrior 3 rather than trace the mark in your book and point to number 14! love the book. And recommend it for anyone working with kids!

I am so very inspired and delighted by all of the fantastic and creative stories woven by Giselle Shardlow and her Kids Yoga Stories series. They offer themselves as a friendly guide and reminder as to how yoga can transform and bring about joy to kid’s lives. If you haven’t read them yet, do so now!

Yoga is such an important part of my life, so it is only natural that my daughter wants to learn her downward dogs from her cobras. She has taken a few kids yoga classes and will soon start going to the kids yoga class at the same studio I go to, but I want to keep encouraging her to play around with yoga at home. At 7 years old my daughter is already a seasoned traveler, so she loves that the character Sophia is on a trip to a new country. She loves following along with the different yoga poses Sophia does throughout the story. Even I have fun doing them with her!

I gave this as a gift to my friend’s daughter. She just loved it! She (5 yr old) and her little sister (2 yr old) looked at the pics and play around with the poses all afternoon. It was darling to see. Everyone got into the fun including their very active brother (4 yr old). It was lovely to see the whole family interact together in front of a book rather than in front of TV or some video game. I plan to give this book out as gifts in the future! Thanks.

I bought this book for my friends two girls aged 5 and 6 and over Christmas, we read it together and they loved it! They enjoyed interacting and figuring out how to do the yoga poses and in fact we read it twice because they wanted to do the poses over and over. The poses were easy to grasp through the illustrations but challenging enough to keep the kids interested and engaged. The subtle but important messages about protecting the environment were also powerful. I also like that all the yoga poses are summarised in the back. I will definitely be buying more of these books for other kids as they were a hit!

We got this book a few months ago and we actually use it quite often. It is a complete 30-45 minute adventure story of a little girl named Sofia, who loves learning about animals, imitating them, and caring about natural environment. I am a parent of a 7 years old boy and a certified Children Yoga Teacher. I would recommend this book, as well as its companion – a coloring book; it’s fun and creative, also highly educative: Children learn about yoga poses and about the world we live in.

I bought this book for my daughter and we both really love it. The book is geared to children a bit older than my daughter (she’s 2), but she’s still a huge fan of the story of Sophia and her trip to Costa Rica. It’s a great introduction to yoga; my daughter is already doing a lot of the yoga poses herself. The illustrations are very colorful and imaginative as well. My daughter requests this book regularly as her night-time (and day-time) go-to story book. I would definitely recommend this book!

I purchased Sophie’s Jungle Adventure to use in my first grade classroom for little “brain breaks” throughout the day, and my students love both the story and the yoga. I have very little yoga experience but the poses are straightforward and easy for the kids, and me, to do. The story is engaging and relevant and has sparked many class discussions. Now I also do the yoga with my four year old at home who loves to listen to the story and follow along on his own. Great fun for everyone! A must-have for any primary teacher.

I recently brought this book home for my 3 year old daughter and it ended up being a family affair. My 5 year old son absolutely loved doing all the yoga poses throughout the story. It’s a great interactive story with memorable connections from the story to the pose. Definitely a great book to continually bring out to challenge ourselves!

I was recently given Sofia’s Jungle Adventure as a gift. It is wonderful way to introduce children to yoga. The poses are fun and easy for young children to do. I would recommend this book to any parent of young children who would like to help their children burn off some energy in a quiet way. It’s great for those days that you are stuck inside the house due to poor weather. My children loved this book so much I purchased copies for friends and for my daughter’s school.

I was recently introduced to this book and fell in love with it. I teach yoga for kids in Portland, OR as well as work as an Occupational Therapy Assistant with kids incorporating yoga into many of their lesson plans and routines. The ease in which it is to use this book is a testament to Ms. Shardlow’s understanding of the yoga practice as well as developmentally appropriate ways to teach it. This has the full package with great visuals, easy to read print with each page accompanied by a picture of a pose. In the back there is somewhat of a glossary of the poses and the names along with the corresponding pictures creating a fluid and cohesive batch of examples that can be expanded upon and invite creativity. With the coloring book as an added bonus, Sophia’s Jungle Adventure is a hit and is a gift to anyone interested and energized to bring yoga to children.

As a children’s yoga trainer, I was thrilled to discover Sophia’s Jungle Adventures, and really ALL of the Kids’ Yoga Stories by Giselle S. There is no better way to engage young children, ages 2.5 – 8 years, in the learning process than to make it playful, engaging and adventuresome through story, beautiful color illustrations and joyful characters. These books are a home run. Sophia’s Jungle Adventure is a must-have resource for every kids’ yoga teachers toolbox. Children will request this story again and again and copies are sure to become lovingly dog-eared in no time at home, school or in the studio. Be sure to check out the associated coloring book as well!

Here’s what I love about this book & coloring book:

Great eco-friendly theme! Sophia & her friends are in an Environment Club at school :)

Each page in the book includes the targeted pose in bold font in the text & a picture of the pose in the top right corner. This makes it easy to keep the flow in a kids yoga storytime especially for those who are new to yoga and may not know all the poses. Additional details are provided in the back of the book.

There are 18 poses in the book. Plenty to fill most kids yoga classes for the targeted age range (4-8 year olds). For a longer class, you could add poses for other animals you might see in a jungle and talk about conservation/eco-friendly choices to extend the theme. Suggestions are provided in the book.

Each page in the coloring book includes the name of that item in the story, the name of the pose and illustrations of both Sophia doing the pose and some of the elements from that scene in the story. The illustrations and font sizes are large & clear.

The Parent-Teacher Guide section at the end of the book & the coloring book are goldmines of great tips for setting up a fun & safe yoga storytime for kids. Gotta share this quote from the end of both books: “Ooze creativity, imagination and abundance. Encourage each child to tap into his or her own creativity and imagination through movement and breath. Welcome quiet times for reflection. Pause often. Remember, it’s not the end result, but the journey where miracles happen…“. Giselle’s passion and love for kids shines through :)

Love the inclusion of Savasana at the end of the book & the idea of Sophia putting her notebook on her belly!

The book has bright colorful illustrations & a nice easy-to-read font size.

Lots of great vocabulary & descriptive language will make this book fun to use in my work as a SLP :)

Flipping through it quickly, I loved the colorful illustrations and the corresponding inset yoga pose on each page. Upon further reading, I found a creative, interactive, educational book perfect for 3-8 year olds. Sophia’s Jungle Adventure has an eco-friendly theme great for use in classrooms. This book is a fabulous way to learn about the rainforest and incorporate yoga poses (hooray for kineasthetic learning). … The pre-school groups (ages 2-5) I teach loved the book. Their favorite poses were Alligator and Monkey. … Giselle has done a wonderful job of combining her educational expertise, enthusiasm for yoga and love of children into a useable and enjoyable children’s yoga book.

There is so much that I love about this book. Not only is it beautifully illustrated and a brilliant way to weave together reading and yoga, but is also provides an excellent way to learn about the story’s setting of Costa Rica, and the jungle animals who live there. Many of the yoga poses shown are inspired by animal movements, sparking an interest in these creatures, and making the book a great jumping off point for budding yogis and explorers alike. I’ll admit, too, that I like slithering like a snake and flying like a toucan just as much as Annabelle does.

This lovely children’s fiction not only includes a sweet and engaging story, but also great illustrations to demonstrate kid-friendly yoga poses and an insightful parent-teacher guide … I really like that the book promotes an underlying theme of respect — for yourself, others, and the environment. The Kids Yoga Stories Guide included in the book wisely encourages parents and teachers to “model and guide an experience where compassion and kindness are integral. This is a great read and a fun way to introduce your little global citizens to yoga. It also serves as a great complement to any kid’s yoga tools that you may currently be using!

Finally a book that spoke to the way he likes to read – in motion! As someone who has always loved yoga, I adore these books because they finally give me a fun, easy way to introduce my son to yoga. I tried to teach him some movements myself when he was younger, without much success. And as my own yoga practice has fallen by the wayside, so has my motivation to teach him.

Enter Kids Yoga Stories, which make yoga fun for kids by setting the movements within the context of a story, so that each motion taught is linked to an action in the storyline. Kids zoom like an airplane as Sofia and her family travel to Costa Rica (yes, our beloved Costa Rica!), salute the sun with Sofia before she begins her hike through the jungle, and act like the monkeys and jaguars she sees.

Along the way, they also learn about the importance of saving the environment for these beautiful creatures, in a way that is easy for children to understand and therefore to care about.

The book is also a great resource for parents, who can refer to the full, illustrated list of poses and a parent-teacher guide at the back of the book.

Monkey loved acting out the story and imitating Sofia’s poses. I was impressed with his attention to detail, as he even made sure to hold his hands the same way as she does. Of course, he often decided to change things up a bit: “How about like this? How about upside-down? How about like a robot?”

This kind of creativity is encouraged by Giselle, whose motivation in creating these interactive books is to “get children moving, learning, and having fun.” Mission accomplished!
