This book is a great resource to engage children. The yoga poses are simple and easy to follow, even for my 2 year old! The story illustrated what children can do to help the environment in a natural way that didn’t feel like a lesson. I would recommend it to anyone!

I loved your story! The way you sequenced the poses was great. Lots of creative use of poses that complement the story as it unfolds. Great to see the environmental awareness being bought in for the younger kids.

Having not read a book from/by Kids Yoga Stories before & as a Children’s Yoga Instructor in the UK, I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to read Luke’s Beach Day!

From the outset, the illustrations in the book & the descriptive words used would clearly appeal to children. The underlying theme of the book was incorporated subtly throughout, alongside a comprehensive build-up of what you would see & recognise at the seaside.
The Yoga Poses flow very well & those used are suitable for a range of ages, & adapt very well to the environment in which the book is set.

Incorporating a very useful reference at the back, highlighting & linking the keywords, yoga poses & a demonstration of the individual poses. Along with a variation for the different ages.

This is the sort of book that my daughters would pick up repeatedly to either practise yoga on their own or together as a family.

Luke’s day at the beach is a wonderful way to introduce children to not only yoga, but about the Australian beach and caring for the environment as well. The story is just the right size for my 4yo, and the call outs with little drawings if the yoga poses are perfect for attracting children’s attention to them. I was very pleased to find the sequencing of the yoga poses was well laid out and the tips for parents and teachers at the end of the book is a wonderful resource, whether you are using this book at home or in a class setting. This is definitely a book I would recommend!

As a mom with 4 kids and a yoga instructor who specializes in creative toddler yoga classes, I am forever scouring the bookstores for stories that incorporate kids, yoga and a positive message to share with and inspire this age group. When I discovered ‘Luke’s Beach Day’ I couldn’t have been more excited – the bright colors, the adorable characters and the built in image of the yoga pose on each page had the kids doing the poses before I even got to them! They could barely sit still to listen to the story, which, by the way, had us all dreaming of getting our beach bags packed and heading to the ocean. I highly recommend ‘Luke’s Beach Day’ and I know I will definitely be adding this book and the others in the Kids Yoga Series to my collection!

Luke’s Beach Day captures the imagination and covers all aspects of a fun day at the beach, addressing important values we should instill in our children – exercise, recycling and the environment all whilst, of course, having fun! As a parent and yoga teacher I love how the postures are the same but reflect the playfulness and engaging quality that kids will love.

Can’t wait to see what Giselle brings us next.

    :

The title of this colorful children’s book is short, simple yet inviting for the adventure. It takes a reader on a day trip to the beach. The whole class with their teacher is there. Kids are playful yet busy on the beach, taking notes for their study of the sea. And there is a lot to learn and observe by watching the animals, plants, moving the way they move, finding different objects left on the sand, that not necessarily belong there.

This a great read-along book, as well as a teacher-student activity book, that covers many educational and developmental fields, such as: zoology, geography, ecology, biology, simple yoga postures (with instructions) and relaxation.

We love the book’s creative potential and that the story encourages children to stay healthy and to care for our planet.

    :

This is a gorgeous book! It is really easy to read and very useable for a toddler style/younger age group kids yoga class. I love the simple text and bright pictures. Great examples of yoga poses and I love the way each pose has been demonstrated on the top of each page. Very accessible to both kids yoga and non-kids yoga teachers. The explanations at the end are clear and fantastic- especially for teachers who might not have experience with kids yoga.

The only suggestion I would add is ideas for props (i.e. shells for meditation/music and games related to this theme). Otherwise, a very well throughout gorgeous book. I would use for my toddler group (3-5 years group). And (with a little expansion) would use also for my 5-8 years group too.

Luke’s Beach Day is a lovely story that weaves in and demonstrates yoga postures throughout a creative story. Through Luke’s adventure children see that yoga is everywhere. It is part of our daily lives. This is a resource that can be used by anyone, even if you have no experience with yoga. Giselle has created a book that fosters many different aspects of child development. I am excited to share with my child as well as the children I teach. Where will Luke’s next adventure be?

My family loves Kids Yoga Stories, and Luke’s Beach Day is a terrific addition to the series. Luke’s Beach Day shows children having a great day at the beach while being good global citizens, cooperative classmates, and centered individuals. The story springs to life with colorful illustrations, and the yoga poses are a wonderful way for kids to follow along and interact with the story.

This book offers a variety of teaching opportunities. From sun safety and keeping our environment clean, to seaside and ocean creatures, as well the main idea of physical and mental health that yoga offers; you can expose children to many important subjects with this book. The kids will really be able to put themselves in the middle of the action while holding the imaginative yoga poses. The illustrations were easy to follow and fun! Thank you for putting together such a creative teaching tool!

I recommend this nicely illustrated book with 18 asanas connected in a very interesting story, with Luke spending time with his teacher and schoolmates at the beach! The story opens the children’s imagination through the themes of beach, sun, sea, sea animals, and friendship. They get a chance to read, play, and enjoy the story through the asanas! At the end of the book there are instructions for teachers what is also very helpful.

Reading Luke’s Beach Day was an absolute delight. Author Giselle Shardlow has managed to find a great balance between storytelling & opening up a child’s awareness to the fact that each of us can make a positive difference daily to the world we live in. As a Yoga teacher I found the poses outlined to be fun for children without being limited & opening up lots of room for creativity. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this book as a valuable resource to anyone wanting to educate young children & expand their knowledge on matters personal health, taking responsibility for their environment & creative play. The bold & colourful illustrations were wonderful too.

I teach preschool yoga at my 4 year old son’s preschool as an extended care program! The kids love it especially when a great story is used in the class! I just reviewed your new book and I absolutely LOVE it!! I especially love the little pose in the bubble at the top of the pages. The kids will love the visual as we read the story. They could even do yoga on their own while looking at the beautiful pictures in the book without actually being able to read the words. I also love the summary of the poses at the end of the book.

Luke’s Beach Day’ is a wonderful way to encourage your child to engage in joyful movement. Children will love learning about the Australian beach through the colorful drawings and story of young children enjoying a day in the sun. The Luke’s story set near the sea is so appealing to kids. You can talk with them about the environment, and animals, and kids love animals. As an English teacher (as a second language), the biggest success this year (from 4 to 7 years old) has been the lesson related to animals. We were able to do poses, sounds, and music. Luke and his friends talk about different animals. They also touch sensitive themes like garbage in the beach. It reminded me an old ad-slogan in Barcelona’s beach: a superhero saying ‘please take your garbage with you when you leave the beach’ . Related to yoga, I like the fact of the little circle with Luke’s figure doing the yoga pose related to the page. Also I find it useful to have the list at the end of the book with the variations of the poses. My purpose is to use this book and the other ones (Sophia’s Jungle Adventure and Anna and her Rainbow-Colored Yoga Mats) in yoga classes in English for Spanish children, and the vocabulary and the story are easy to understand.

This is a delightful little story about a boy called Luke and his friends at an Australian Beach. I love how the story strings several yoga poses in a sequence to create an adventure at the beach! Kids yoga is a big adventure and children will love listening to the story and then playing with the various postures in the book. I usually adapt kids story books in our yoga classes, looking for postures we can do as we read familiar stories, and it is so handy to have a book like this, specially designed for kids yoga. It has loads of postures that children love doing such as Sun Salute, Tree Pose, Kangaroo Pose, and pretending to surf pose. I also love how it gently introduces children to the idea of protecting the environment. This book is suitable for toddlers too. My daughter is almost three and we were delighted to read it together when it first arrived. It is beautifully illustrated for younger readers to follow along. At the end of the book are some excellent tips for teachers and parents for practising yoga with children. I truly believe anyone can do yoga with kids, and books like this just make it so much easier to spread the joy of yoga across the world, to young and old.
