5 PARENT CHILD PARTNER YOGA POSES

This sequence includes poses meant to be practiced by an adult and child who are working together to create the pose. Don’t worry if you haven’t tried yoga before—just jump in and give it a go.

Practice barefoot on a non-slip surface, if possible. Clear any obstacles and ensure the safety of yourself and your partner. Don’t worry about perfectly aligned poses. Just enjoy each pose together.

Use this as a time to connect and bond in a playful and healthy way. Take time to rest after a session. Lie in Resting Pose and take a few slow, deep breaths to allow your body to soften and release any tension.

How to Practice Partner Extended Cat Pose

Come to all fours, facing each other, with your heads almost touching. Extend your right leg out behind you, flex your foot, and look forward. Place your left hand on your partner’s shoulder to counterbalance. Hold the pose for a few breaths and then signal to each other to come out of the pose together. Repeat on the other side.

How to Practice Stacked Child’s Pose

For the adult: Sit on your heels, slowly bring your forehead down to rest on the floor in front of your knees, rest your arms down alongside your body, and take a few deep breaths.
For the child: At the signal of your adult partner, climb on your partner’s back to practice Child’s Pose stacked on top. Your arms will rest straight down, and your head will rest on your partner’s shoulders.
Together: Take a few moments in this pose, and then the top partner will carefully dismount from the pose.

How to Practice Partner Seated Cat Pose

Come to sitting comfortably cross-legged, facing each other, with your knees almost touching. Lift your arms and gently reach for your partner’s biceps. Then tuck your chin to your chest, round your back, and feel the stretch in your back using the resistance of your partner’s arm hold. Take a few moments in this position and then come out of the pose together.

How to Practice Seesaw

Sit in an L position facing each other. You could either press your flexed feet together, or one person could bring their feet inside their partner’s legs. Reach forward and take each other’s hands. To begin the seesaw, one partner leans back, bringing the other partner forward. Each partner takes turn leaning back and then bending forward to create the seesaw. Try this back-and-forth movement a few times.
