Looking for yoga gifts for 5-year-olds? Check out these yoga gifts for kindergarteners.
It’s important to me that my daughter grows up understanding that yoga goes beyond yoga postures—it’s about living a yoga lifestyle that includes being a responsible, mindful, kind, and compassion person. So, each Christmas, we include yoga gifts among her present list to reinforce the idea that yoga is a part of our everyday life.
This year, I’m focusing on gifts that aim to help her deal with her hectic Kindergarten life full of various classes and teachers at school. As well, she has a whole new set of friendships to develop and new academic concepts to grasp.
Five Yoga Gifts for 5-Year-Olds
The following 5 yoga gift ideas were chosen to help foster a mindful, calm life for my little one:
1. Calming Music
During pregnancy, I put on Snatam Kaur’s Grace album during naptime. And then it was this CD that we reached for to help calm my daughter when she was an infant. My daughter was mesmerized by Snatam’s joyful and soothing chanting. For Christmas this year, I bought her Snatam Kaur’s album for children, Feeling Good Today!
2. Meditation Cushion
I don’t expect my daughter to meditate with me every day, but by offering her a meditation cushion of her own, I hope to plant a seed that meditation is a part of our family’s life each and every day. I chose a cushion to match mine, in her favorite blue color.
3. Mala Beads
When my daughter joins me for morning meditation, she’s always fixated on the mala beads in my right hand that I use to count my breaths. This holiday, I purchased a small string of mala beads, so she can practice her own breath counting.
4. Mindfulness Book for Kids
There are beautiful mindfulness books for kids being released all the time. Here are some of my current favorites for my daughter’s age – Charlotte and the Quiet Place, I AM Yoga, Today We Have No Plans, The Lemonade Hurricane, and What Does It Mean to Be Present?
5. Relaxation Stories
Recently, my daughter has been waking up with nightmares of giants. She’s been asking to talk about unicorns and mermaids before bed so that she can reduce her fear and fall asleep. I recently introduce her to Carolyn Clarke’s series of Imaginations books. Her collection of relaxation stories includes one called “Unicorn Friend.”
Lastly but not least, I’m going to consciously give my daughter the gift of silence and begin to teach her the importance of silence and how to calm her mind from her hectic school life. On the way home from school, I’m going to turn off the radio more often and drive in silence. And I’m going to turn off the music at home more often while we are eating and/or doing a craft together, to enjoy the quiet. She is such a social and active child, but I’m going to talk to her about how to unwind and “do nothing” sometimes. In this way, I hope to plant the seeds of self-regulation and mindfulness.
I hope that these kids yoga products bring joy to your household this holiday season. Please share if you have any other suggestions. We are always looking for new ideas!
