Virtual Book Club: Bugs

Kids Yoga Stories is a proud sponsor of the Virtual Book Club Summer Camp hosted by Toddler Approved, Rainy Day Mum, and The Educators’ Spin On It from June 24 to July 26, 2013.

The program is five weeks of theme-related books and activities.  Sign up on their websites to receive updates and a weekly summer camp planner.  The themes are:

Week 1:  Bugs
Week 2: Gardening
Week 3:  Water
Week 4:  Forest
Week 5:  Animal

Each week, I will be posting kids yoga sequences to match the theme, to get children moving, learning, and reading this summer.  Watch for a special Luke’s Beach Day review and giveaway during the Water theme week.

For the first week, the theme is BUGS.

Check out the list of Bug-related books, crafts, and activities on their blogs.

Virtual Book Club: Bug Books and Kids Yoga

Here is a “5 for 5: Five kids yoga poses in five minutes” inspired by The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle.  The story follows different animals who come to speak to the spider, but she is busy spinning her web.  Five of the animals in the book:

The Very Busy Spider: 5 for 5

Duck – Squat Pose
(Squat down, flap your arms like wings, and quack like a duck)

Dog – Downward-Facing Dog Pose
(On hands-and-feet, with buttocks high up in the air, lift one leg, and bark like a dog)

Cat – Cat Pose
(Come down to hands-and-knees, look up, arch your back, and meow like a cat)

Cow – Cow Pose
(From Cat Pose, look down, roll your shoulders, round your back, and moo like a cow)

Pig – Happy Baby Pose
(Lay on your back, bring your knees-to-chest, roll in the mud, and oink like a pig)
