TheYogaKids program is recognized as the preeminent yoga program for children.  The program includes YogaKids Tools for Schools, YogaKids Book, YogaKids DVD/CD series, Teacher Training, and Teen Program.

Marsha Wenig, Founder of YogaKids

On my search for everything to do with kids yoga eight years ago, I came across her YogaKids: Educating the Whole Child Through Yoga book.  I remember ordering the book on Amazon from the United States and waiting weeks for it to arrive in Australia, which certainly added to the anticipation.

What I love about the YogaKids book:

  • Aesthetically beautiful with bright colors and gorgeous photos of the children in poses.
  • Excellent starter book on “how to do yoga” with your children.
  • Integrates elements of music, reading, environmental education, brain research, anatomy, language learning, artistic expression, affirmations, relaxation, mathematical concepts, and games.
  • Recommended props.
  • Guidelines for different age groups.
  • Suggested yoga sequences.
  • List of basic yoga poses.
  • Descriptions of fifty kids yoga poses.
  • Details of the seven chakras in an easy way to share with children.
  • Suggested song and book lists matched up with poses.
  • Fun to read and a great springboard for inventing your own ideas and poses.

As a former teacher, the best part of the YogaKids book is the focus on the eight intelligences.  At the time, I had been planning several kids yoga classes and thinking about ways to incorporate Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences.  I was beyond thrilled that someone else across the world also believed in the same philosophy – integrating yoga into the education of the whole child.

The YogaKids book gave me courage to keep writing the Kids Yoga Stories books.  Knowing that people in the United States also believed in integrating yoga into schools was validating and encouraging.  I love this book!

I teach kids yoga and I’m always looking for new resources. Its not always easy to come up with something new for the kids, but kids are an endless source of imagination, yoga with them is absolutely amazing! Most of the times I write a full new story myself incorporating yoga poses for the kids and they love them. It can be stressful for me and time consuming but I ‘m not going to give up! I love children very much and I will always try to make them smile and laugh! This book will be very very useful to me! Thank you for this giveaway!

I have twin 4 year old girls – one is very flexible but hates ballet and would rather do video games, the other is not flexible at all and loves ballet. We could do this together and the flexible one would be able to enjoy her strength (and get off the video games) and the non-flexible one would be able to improveher ballet.

My daughter (2) has definitely taken an interest in yoga and recently I got a CD from the library that I call Indian (Native American) flute music and we must have done yoga with it on because now each time she hears it she says, “Do yoga?” I would love to enhance our yoga experiences and grow an exercise bond regimen for us both as she grows.

I recently introduced my daughter to yoga. She loves it. I want to add to our routine. She now does yoga before bed. I would like to also have her practice yoga mid morning. The added advantage of her consistently doing yoga is that I also get to practice with her.

My sister and I live in a really small town. There aren’t really any options to go practice yoga with a professional (without driving about an hour). These books would really help us practice with/teach our little ones. It’ll also give us more time together doing something healthy and fun:)
